A PersistentVolume represents a piece of storage in the Kubernetes cluster that has been provisioned by an administrator or dynamically provisioned using a StorageClass. It's a resource in the cluster just like a node is a cluster resource.

PersistentVolumes have a lifecycle independent of any individual pod that uses them. When a PV is created, it exists in the cluster until it's explicitly deleted.

A StorageClass provides a way to describe the "classes" of storage you offer. It serves as a blueprint that defines how Kubernetes should provision a PersistentVolume dynamically when a PersistentVolumeClaim (PVC) requests it.

StorageClasses abstract the underlying storage provider details from the users who just want storage for their applications. The cluster administrator defines the different StorageClasses available.
